Dr. Shila Thomas, an Ophthalmologist by profession is married to Dr. Thomas Joseph, a Nephrologist from CMC, Vellore. Both of them joined the rural mission hospital in Ambilikkai as there was an acute shortage of doctors at that time. Her parents having been the founding members worked in Christian Fellowship Hospital, Oddanchatram for 15 years, and then took it up on themselves to start the Ambilikkai Hospital and much later founded the prestigious Rev. Jacob Memorial Christian College.

From 1991, Dr. Shila Thomas has been contributing as a full time Consultant Ophthalmologist in Ambilikkai hospital and later as a part time doctor till Nov 2018. During the course of her career, she has performed more than 5000 Cataract surgeries and many other surgeries as well. Most of her patients were from underprivileged rural set up including lots of Leprosy patients from Erode, Palani & Karur districts. She has also helped to run the Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments at Ambilikkai.

Dr. Shila had additional training in Karisruhe, Germany and had the privilege to work for short duration of time in Century Hospital, Schell Hospital and for 7 yrs in Vasan Eye Care. Soon after the demise of Amma, Dr. Shila stepped in as Director for both the Societies and proved as an able and dedicated leader. She is continuing as Director of CEHD Society and takes special interest in the progress of RJMCC and guides the college administration with her valuable inputs as Governing Board Chairperson.
